HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage

Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). Practitioners may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Training and Assessment Requirements

This is a competency-based program and assessment is undertaken. This course involves a combination of assessment, research, and project work.

 

The 21 units that must be completed consist of the following:

18 core units

3 elective units

 

All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Students are required to attend scheduled structured training for a minimum of 20 hours per week. Assessment for this qualification includes assignments and research projects. Unit of competency is based on the completion of assignments, and/or observations for each unit.

Delivery Mode

Study and assessment will be in a classroom and simulated work environment. Students will have use of college facilities including training rooms that are equipped with data projectors and screens: access to computers, printers, unlimited internet and library resources.

Entry Requirement

 

Australian Future Wellbeing Education has the following entry requirements:

 

All students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have completed at least Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.

 

Domestic students must: 

 

  • Have a valid visa to study or hold Australian citizenship, does not require a COE
  •  
  • Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills as tested through a language, literacy and numeracy assessment. Students will need to achieve at least ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course. Domestic students may not need to prove year 12  or any Tertiary study if achieve ACSF level 3 of LLN test.

 

A prospective student does not need to conduct LLN test with their application if one of the following applies:

 

  • Prospective student has completed at least 3years’ study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland within the last 5 calendar years.
  •  
  • Currently studying or has completeda Certificate III level or above in an Australian RTO or a higher education sector within the last 5 calendar years.
  •  
  • Has achieved general English Intermediate level with any registered Australian  education provider.

 

International students must:

 

  • Have an IELTS* score of 5.5(test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following: 
    •  
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Successfullyachieve CEFR B2 or above of an English Placement Test(Oxford or Cambridge)

 

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

 

A prospective student does not need to provide evidence of an English test score if one of the following applies:

 

  • Prospective student has completed at least 3years’ study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland within the last 5 calendar years
  •  
  • Currently studying or has completeda Certificate III level or above in an Australian RTO or a higher education sector within the last 5 calendar years.

  • Has achieve ELICOS Intermediate level with any registered Australian education provider

 

 

Please also note that if you are applying for more than one course with us, you will only need to complete the Placement test once. Students returning to studies at AFWE after a significant gap may be required to complete the  Placement test

*Note: First-aid unit in this course may be delivered by an outsourced RTO (RTO Code: 40407). In this case, AFWE will pay for the unit and award a credit transfer to your AFWE qualification. For this unit, if you wish to do your own First-aid qualification at an RTO of your choice, this will be at your own cost.

 

 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge, and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning). The granting of course credit may affect course fees as well as the duration of the course.

 

This process is outlined in Australian Future Wellbeing Education Student Enrolment and Completion Policy and Associated Procedures and Training and Assessment Policy & Associated Procedures.

Materials/equipment Required for the Course

All materials/equipment are supplied as per Training and Assessment Strategy.

 

No additional cost for material/equipment except for on campus printing.

 

In addition, all students who are undertaking the HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage must have the following resources while in class.

 

- A laptop or computer that is installed with Microsoft Office or similar.

- Use & wash your own towels for you practice.

 

Course Completion

Students obtaining a ‘competent’ result for all listed competencies will achieve a Qualification title.

Code achieving ‘not yet competent’ for any Unit of Competency will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units in which they have demonstrated competency.
